5 Outdoor Date Ideas for Your Summer Break

Relationships involve a lot of decision making. Deciding where to eat, which movie to watch, and what plans to make for the weekend can get overwhelming. To make the process a little easier, here are some fun and environmentally conscious date ideas to try with your partner. Because what’s better than spending time with the one you love while also saving the planet?

Volunteer for a clean-up: Even though trash cans are often found on beaches, lakes and in parks, garbage tends to accumulate quickly at these beautiful and romantic locations. Volunteer your time as a couple to keep your favorite natural date spots free of waste and pollution. You can also find local clean-up efforts by searching your city’s recreational website or on social media.

Enjoy concerts responsibly: At summer music festivals you can’t go without water! Instead of buying individual plastic bottles, consider getting gallon jugs of water. If you don’t have space for a jug, bring an insulated water bottle. Inside the venue, there are usually hydration and water fill-up stations that will keep your container full during the entire line up. Also, avoid free “swag” that is handed out by business vendors. It’s likely that you will never use these items outside the venue and they’ll end up on the ground and not in the trash.

Start a garden: Growing your own food and flowers is a great way to show the earth and your partner some love. Enjoy an afternoon of planting some of your favorite vegetables or plants and watch them grow — like the love you have for each other.

Have a picnic: Bring some organic wine, cheeses, and fruits and relax on a blanket under the summer sun. If you’re feeling up for an adventure, pack your supplies in a backpack and hike to a peaceful lookout spot. Remember to avoid paper and plastic plates, cups, utensils and napkins. Keep things sustainable by using reusable or biodegradable items.

Visit a farmer’s market: There’s nothing like a romantic stroll through the farmer’s market. If you don’t need groceries, just stop from stand to stand to talk to local farmers about their products and items that are in season. This can be a fun early morning event to kick off your day together. Also, you might get an idea of what you want for dinner while you’re there.
Being environmentally conscious when it comes to activities and date ideas can be a great way to grow closer as a couple. Get eco-friendly without compromising on fun this summer!
