8 Items to Keep in Your Car for Any Situation

Posted in

Some drivers keep nothing in their car trunks, backseat or glove compartments. Others have enough items packed in their cars to live off of for an entire year. Somewhere in between this great contrast, there is a list of essential items that everyone should keep on hand. Here are 8 things everyone should keep in their cars at all times.

Spare tire: Keep a tire in good condition along with a tire iron in your car. You’ll never know when you’ll need to change a flat tire and it’s always good to be prepared!

Tire sealer: If you’re not familiar with the process of changing a flat tire or don’t want to carry around extra tools, have a sealer like Fix-a-Flat on hand. This handy item will plug a leaky tire until you can get your car to an auto shop.

Jumper cables: Dead batteries always occur unexpectedly. Alternatively, you can keep an emergency battery in your car if you’re worried you will not be able to find someone to help jump start your car.

Reusable shopping bags: Chances are, you’ve forgotten your reusable shopping bags during your trip to the store multiple times. Make the most of your bags and reduce plastic use by keeping your reusable bags in your car for ease of use.

Tire pressure gauge: Keeping a gauge handy will help you check your pressure on a regular basis. This can help improve the longevity of your tires and help you increase your fuel economy.

Emergency kit: You’ll never see an emergency situation coming. Keep a kit with emergency supplies such as a first aid kit, flashlight, matches, water and solar powered radio.

Maps: If you take long road trips or find yourself in areas without good cell reception, keep paper maps in your glove compartment. There’s nothing worse than driving around lost for hours and wasting time and gas.

Umbrella: Weather changes in an instant. It’s always good to have an umbrella or rain jacket on hand. This list of items is not exhaustive and your needs may vary. These suggested items may seem like a lot to keep in your car, but most are inexpensive, easy to find and don’t take up much space!
